Marble granules – crushedmarble flooring and finishes for residential and building projects

Marble granules are crushed natural marble aggregates used in terrazzo and marblescreed systems to create durable, decorative floors and wall finishes in apartments, villas, residential buildings, malls, hotels, and public facilities. Instead of relying on individual tiles with many grout joints, marblegranule systems form a continuous stone layer that can be ground and repolished several times over the life of the building, making them ideal for entrances, staircases, and corridors with heavy daily traffic. More information is available on the Marble Granules product page.

What are marble granules?

Marble granules are small pieces of natural marble that are crushed, washed, and graded into specific chip sizes, then mixed into cementbased or resinbased binders. Once applied as a screed and allowed to cure, the surface is ground to expose the marble chips and finished to a honed or polished sheen. Because the final surface is a continuous slab with fewer joints than conventional tiling, it traps less dirt and can be cleaned more efficiently with regular washing and neutral detergents.

Typical uses in homes and buildings

  • Entrances and reception areas, where marblegranule terrazzo floors provide a premium first impression and withstand frequent use by family members and guests.
  • Internal stairs and corridors, offering better slip resistance than fully polished marble tiles and the option to regrind and refinish after years of use.
  • Openplan ground floors in villas, where a single continuous terrazzo floor links the lobby, living, dining, and circulation areas in a calm, unified finish.
  • Main entrance lobbies, where marblegranule floors immediately signal quality and help increase perceived property value for tenants and buyers.
  • Staircases and floor corridors, providing a robust alternative to basic screeds or lowcost tiles that can be refurbished by repolishing instead of being replaced.
  • Main atriums and corridors in shopping centres, which must handle very high pedestrian traffic and frequent cleaning while maintaining a highend appearance.
  • Hotel lobbies, guest corridors, and feature staircases, where repolishable marblegranule terrazzo helps maintain a fresh, luxurious look over many years.
  • Airports and public buildings, especially arrival/departure halls and main entrances, where a formal, durable, and easytoclean surface is essential.

Installation methods (simple overview)

  • Cement or resin terrazzo systems:
Marble granules are mixed directly into a cement or resin matrix and applied as a screed of defined thickness, then ground and finished after curing.
  • Marble granule mortar finishes:
Chips are broadcast onto fresh mortar and embedded before the surface is levelled; the finish may be left slightly textured for higher slip resistance or ground smoother depending on the area.
In all cases, correct substrate preparation and suitable sealers for interior or exterior use are critical to longterm performance.

Value for owners, designers, and contractors

For owners, marblegranule systems combine a luxury marble look with long service life and the possibility of renewal by grinding, rather than full demolition and retiling. For designers and contractors, they offer a flexible material that can cover large areas, support custom colour mixes and patterns, and deliver strong performance in both residential and public buildings.
